background

After commissioning as a 2ndLt in the United States Marines in 2012, his career on active duty was filled with important lessons on leadership and understanding how mental & emotional factors have a serious impact on our performance. He exited active duty in 2018 as a Captain, and still strongly support veterans finding their own lessons in life.

While serving

When he first joined, Dr. Vallario set 3 goals for himself; to make Captain, to become a Marine Combat instructor of Water Survival (MCIWS) and to compete on the Marine Triathlon team. He not only accomplished all 3, he made the certification level of MCIWS Instructor Trainer (a level less than .1% of the Marine Corps holds), was selected to run the Water Survival School on Parris Island, SC and competed on the Triathlon team at the Armed Forces Championships in 2017.

After serving

It was while running the Water Survival School that he began studying Performance Psychology. The mental and emotional factors of water survival led numerous individuals to fail these events. By understanding those factors, he and his team were able to implement methods to help students overcome those obstacles and pass. This drove him to earn his Master’s degree in 2019 and complete his Doctoral program in 2022 in Performance Psychology. Remaining an advocate and mentor for transitioning service members, as well as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.

The Whole Person

We are a lot more than just our profession and our education. In his personal life, Dr. Vallario is an avid athlete looking for new physical endeavors. Currently striving to conquer some of the most challenging trails and rides around his current home state of Colorado. His love of the outdoors runs deep, taking every moment possible to escape into the wilderness and spend time in nature. He owes a great deal of success to his wife Jenn for her unconditional love and constant support for everything life throws our way. His growth is continuous, becoming a new father in 2024, and seeing the new levels of success and fulfillment parenthood brings.
